Are Overwater Bungalows Safe?
Yes, overwater bungalows are safe, but there are some inherent dangers since you are directly over the water, so you will need to practice some basic safety precautions:
- Sleepwalkers may need to lock the bungalow doors at night, so they don’t accidentally go sleep-snorkeling.
- Check with the hotel what kind of sea life you can expect around the bungalows, like stingrays, nurse sharks, dolphins, or jellyfish.
- Sunburn is a common danger of overwater bungalows, so make sure to pack appropriate clothing like long sleeve rash guards, sunhats, and polarized sunglasses. Some reef-safe sunscreen is also a good idea!
- Overwater bungalows are generally not safe for young children, especially if they cannot swim.
